Vodafone Challenge

December 2007

Vodafone trusted waskman once again to promote the features of the new Vodafone Live! service with the participation of agency Cool-Lines.
Vodafone asked: What can we do to make users understand that from now on they will be able to surf the net from their very own mobile phone and use services such as Google, Messenger, Yahoo, Meetic, Myspace or Ebay?
waskman answered: Well, let’s invite a famous character to spend some time in a transparent truck traveling through Spain. The interesting thing will be that he will only have a mobile phone and won’t be able to leave the truck so, in order to communicate with other people or buy anything to eat, he will have to use his mobile phone. He didn’t have food, drinks or even a bed where to sleep, only a mobile phone, during 7 long days. However, if he convinced people he could accept presents. He could also buy things surfing the net with his mobile phone. Obviously the experiment’s goal was to show the benefits that Vodafone Live! could bring to anyone’s live.
So who should we invite to this kind of big brother? Who is going to be mad enough to live in a transparent truck completely isolated from the rest of the world? Furthermore, also with the responsibility of obtaining donations and presents for a charity that aims at improving the lives of children? Whoever accepts this challenge must be a bit mad, must be a showman and able to cheer up with his presence whoever stops by the truck or sees it through the live Internet broadcasting.
Somebody said: How about Sergio Pazos?
So we designed a transparent trailer completely equipped so that to be able to broadcast Sergio Pazos´adventures during a whole week. We cabled the whole thing, put cameras and computer equipment that communicated with a small editing room and video broadcasting also hosted in the same truck and from where everything traveled to the Internet, even when it was moving. We chose a Kenworth W900 truck and spent a whole week traveling between Madrid, A Coruña, Bilbao and Barcelona.
