BalkanWars

February 2004

We made the global design for this exposure installation. The making of the Balkan Wars: The Game in the Cultural Center Conde Duque of Madrid for ARCO 2004. Balkan Wars meant to be a sample of the Greek artistic inspiration together with the use of digital technology, with a concept based on Balkan history, and concretely, on the violence and war that multicultural geographic area was trough. The technological nature the artistic works were based on, as well as the impersonal, dehumanized vision who accompany all wars, even more in the ones happened in last century, made us distribute the games (simulating historic events in Yugoslavia), in recreational machines – Arcade-.Thus, along with the mimetism of walls and the own machines we tried to unite the apparent contradiction between a space destined to  playful thing,  games,  leisure, and the incomprehensible brutality of wars. We designed the exposure space, as well as the graphical necessities and the event organization. Games  simulating the diverse violent situations in Yugoslavia, posters and spaces in the Swiss Box located in the Cultural Center Conde Duque to show an idea about war and its consequences.
